Frequently Asked Questions
Suru Studio is a Hamilton-based, non-heated vinyasa yoga studio, located at 335 Barton St.East. Suru Studio’s name comes from the word ‘to begin’. We believe that when you begin with yoga, you can do great things. Our studio has an accessible main floor room, gender neutral washrooms and private showers. See our schedule to learn more about our classes.
The word ‘vinyasa’ can be translated as ‘arranging something in a special way,’ such as yoga poses. Our classes offer a thoughtful balance of challenge and release and often weave a theme into class or progress to a peak pose. Modifications are provided and props are encouraged to allow you to feel the benefits of the pose in your own unique body.
Our studio is heated to a comfortable room temperature, allowing you to build your own internal heat. While we don’t offer yoga in a 40 C room, you can expect to work up a sweat!
It all depends on how you like to learn.
If you are new to yoga or are recovering from an injury, try our Vinyasa Light class, which offers the benefits of yoga without sun salutations (the flow of sequences between poses). If you are the type of person who wants to immerse in a subject, try our Vinyasa Krama class, which investigates and breaks down poses in a workshop-type environment.
If you currently have an active lifestyle, perhaps complement your practice with yin or restorative yoga. If you’re the type of person who wants to just dive right in, check out our Vinyasa Flow class and just let your instructor know you’re new to the practice.
If you are attending a vinyasa flow class, wear clothing that you can move and sweat in. If you are attending a restore, yin or meditation class, wear comfortable, layered clothing. Read our Suru Yogi Guide before coming to your first class.
We provide grippy, cushion-y mats from B Mat, but you’re more than welcome to bring your own. We’ll have filtered water available. You can bring a water bottle. Read our Suru Yogi Guide before coming to your first class.
All of our classes are drop in unless otherwise stated.
Our schedule becomes available two weeks prior. You can enrol as early as two weeks or just show up.
It is also a good idea to reserve your spot to attend events and workshops that require additional pricing as spots are limited and may book up fast.
Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds or transfers on our class packages. You have six months to use your passes. If you are going on vacation or had to take time off due to an illness, reach out to us at 289.246.9299 or email us email@example.com and we can hold or extend the expiry date of your passes by a week or two.
For classes that require you to register, you have 12 hours prior to its start to cancel without penalty. Late cancellations will result in a $15 charge. No shows will be charged a $20 fee.
Suru Studio believes in rewarding its customers. You will earn store credit for every class purchase and taken. The store credit can be used toward class passes, memberships, events and soon, the Suru Studio boutique.
Your store credit expires at the end of the year (e.g. December 31, 2019), however, you can transfer your credit toward a Suru Studio gift card for the same amount and gift cards never expire!
Sometimes verbal cues are not enough. We offer hands-on adjustments to help with alignment and to help you feel grounded and supported. They are never about depth.
Hands-on adjustments can be a touch or a gentle massage at the end of your practice. We recognize that hands-on adjustments are not for everyone. To communicate your preferences, retrieve a double-sided adjustments card from the front desk. Place the ‘No, Thank You’ side up to decline adjustments or place the ‘Yes, Please’ side up to receive adjustments. You may change your decision at any point during class.
We believe that yoga is a practice that you keep coming back to, but with a different understanding each time. For this reason, we don’t prescribe levels, but rather set our classes to the experience you are looking for. Whether you are a long-time practitioner or new to yoga, we believe in ‘showing up and doing the work,’ which can mean strength one day and being still another day. ‘Work’ may also look different from body to body and may feel different in your own body from one day to the next.
As we are a relatively new studio, we are focused on growing and serving the needs of our community. We do not offer teacher training at the time, but we welcome you to come to one of our workshops if you are looking to advance your practice.
ClassPass is a monthly fitness membership that provides access to thousands of different studios, gyms, and wellness offerings across ClassPass cities worldwide.
The cost of membership plans vary by location and credit amount. The number of classes taken each cycle depends on your membership plan, and how you choose to use your credits. You can book classes ranging from yoga to barre to cycling to martial arts.
The catch? You can only visit each studio 3 times a month. Additional visits can be purchased by purchasing class passes or a membership at that studio.
